Sorry, things got put on hold a bit. Rocky started teaching again and is kept pretty busy with that.

Right now, we're looking to do more Temple paintings. I think the consensus (from the poll) was that the Salt Lake Temple and Nauvoo will be next. Now we just need reference pictures! If you live in that area, let me know, we'll work something out in exchange for your help!

A Selection of Portraits

These portraits below are some chosen from the past few years. They are family members and friends. As an artist I not only try to catch the likeness of a particular person but also to create a piece of art that can be appreciated by those who might not know the people in the pictures.

In high school I completed a self portrait with acrylic paint. My teacher, Mrs. Saul, (of whom I have very fond memories) entered my painting into an art competition. I was notified by someone associated with the competition that there was a lady who was interested in buying my painting. I thought, "Why in the world would some lady who has never met me want a painting I did of myself?"
I have since found out.
I can still remember a trip to the Norton Simon Museum as a teenager. A Van Gogh portrait of an old man just knocked my socks off. Vincent's masterful handling of the thick paint combined with the vibrancy of the colors transformed an ordinary subject into the most exciting thing to look at.
Who was the man in the portrait? Who was Mona Lisa?
Beats me.
But the painting of them are great.

My favorite in this grouping is the last titled "Facer". He was my scoutmaster. The painting is based off a snapshot I took of him in the car as we were traveling back from a waterski trip at the Delta in California. His wrinkled, leathery face makes the painting.
