Rocky Jones Art

Although born in a tiny town in Idaho, I grew up in the big city of Los Angeles as the fourth of eleven children. I remember melting crayons onto paper on the electric skillet at home with siblings (something everyone should try). During the summers in elementary school I took watercolor classes. I was able to survive my studies through high school because of art classes I was able to take, including the ones at Pasadena Art Center and others sponsored by Disney.

I naturally studied art and earned a BFA while attending Brigham Young University. Ever since I could remember, I have constantly reinvented myself artistically. But the recurring theme in my work deals with the earth and with people. Both human beings and the earth share a beauty impossible to replicate; they were both created by God. No matter how I try, my imitation only hints at the real thing. But, it is my job to get people to look closer at the wonder that surrounds us.

The inspiration for my work comes from my surroundings. I work from memory, photos I have taken, as well as in plein aire.

Rocky lives with his wife Jessica and three children in Florida.

Sorry, things got put on hold a bit. Rocky started teaching again and is kept pretty busy with that.

Right now, we're looking to do more Temple paintings. I think the consensus (from the poll) was that the Salt Lake Temple and Nauvoo will be next. Now we just need reference pictures! If you live in that area, let me know, we'll work something out in exchange for your help!
